Our educational resource center includes GED prep, computer literacy, resume guidance, employment readiness/job placement and even virtual reality classes. It is a vital part of helping men and women in their move to independent living.

Community Services

The Learning Center is open to the general community each morning by appointment. Visitors may access the internet to perform job and/or housing searches, apply for social services or other personal business. They also have access to the phone, fax, copier and printer. They may also pursue educational goals if desired. Appointments must be made 24 hours in advance and are available Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 11:00am.

Program Services

Participation in the Learning Center is a component of both the men’s and women’s recovery programs. Each program participant works alongside the Learning Center Staff to develop an individualized plan of action for them to achieve their educational and career goals. Throughout the duration of their time at the Mission, each participant meets with the Learning Center Director monthly to update their plan as they make progress toward achieving their goals.

Educational Development

Classes (small groups or online) include academic subjects primarily focusing on writing and math, personal financial competency, and computer literacy. For those without a high school diploma, GED preparation is offered. Individualized tutoring sessions are also offered as needed.

Career Development

Through a Career Employment Skills class, students learn the skills necessary for success in the workplace, navigating the job search and application process and developing their resumes based on their career goals.

Job Skills Training

Program participants are able to enhance their job skills through several internet training programs. Areas of study range from business management to hospitality and health care preparation. HVAC, solar, electrical, plumbing, and building maintenance training programs with assessments provided in virtual reality are also available to program participants who are working toward these fields.
